Dengue taking epidemic form in Nepal 

Kathmandu, October 5. While dengue is spreading across the country as an epidemic, the government has shown indifference in controlling the infection. So far, 17 thousand 594 people have been infected with dengue and 21 people have died.
With daily dengue infections, the death rate is also increasing, but the government has delayed declaring dengue as a 'national disaster'.

Recently, as the infection started to increase in 75 districts of the country, the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) concluded that the dengue infection has spread across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, and has written to the Ministry of Health to declare a 'nationwide disaster'.

Even as the infection rate is increasing daily, the government is focusing on elections rather than public health, and dengue is taking the form of an epidemic. According to Dr. Gokarn Dahal, Head of Insect Disease Control Branch of EDCD, the rate of dengue infection in Nepal was low in July, but gradually increased in September.
